Job group salary in Kenya 2026: job group J, K, L, N and CSG scales from official adverts
Job group N (CSG 8) was advertised at KES 59,010 to 103,440 basic a month in April 2026, and job group L (CSG 9) at KES 47,900 to 67,750. Each scale here is copied from a dated government advert.
Job group K, also called CSG 10, was advertised by the Public Service Commission at a basic KES 43,200 to 59,010 a month in May 2026, plus KES 9,600 to 16,500 house allowance and KES 5,000 commuter allowance. We didn't find one official table that lists every grade, so this page copies the scales printed in government adverts, each with its date. The same grade can show different figures in different adverts, so read the date first.

Copied from the adverts linked under Sources. A job group letter appears only where an official advert prints that pair, which can be a different advert from the one with the figure. The Irrigation posts were for serving officers and the Livestock posts were one year contracts. We found no official explanation of why a grade's figures differ between adverts, so we don't offer one. These are scales for those adverts, not a promise of what any post pays today.
Which CSG is which job group?
Official adverts print these pairs. The Livestock advert of January 2026 prints CSG 13 with job group G, CSG 14 with F, CSG 15 with E, CSG 16 with D and CSG 17 with C. The Public Service Commission's TVET advert prints CSG 10 with K and CSG 11 with J. A State Department for Performance advert of March 2024 prints CSG 8 with N and CSG 9 with L. We didn't find an advert that prints a job group beside CSG 12, so we won't guess one.
We also found no figure for job groups H and M. Any number you see for those needs its own official source. Ask for the advert or circular it came from.
Why the same grade shows different figures
Scales move from one advert to the next. The Public Service Commission's file of October 2025 printed CSG 12 at KES 28,620 to 37,100, and its May 2026 file prints KES 30,400 to 38,880. That same May file still prints lower figures for a few posts, such as CSG 7 at KES 92,030 to 133,410.
Adverts from later in 2026 may print higher figures. The Commission's site wouldn't open when we checked on 2 November 2026, so we haven't listed them. For a real application, the advert for that post has the final word.
What a job group K post comes to each month
Take the bottom of the May 2026 CSG 10 scale. Basic pay of KES 43,200, plus the top house allowance in that advert of KES 16,500 and commuter allowance of KES 5,000, comes to KES 64,700 a month before deductions.

County job groups
County boards set out their own adverts. These Nairobi City County adverts were open in our catalogue, with the basic scale printed on each:
- Job group N: KES 60,080 to 96,130
- Job group P: KES 92,030 to 133,410
- Job group R: KES 127,340 to 182,890
Other counties can print different figures. Use the advert for the post you're applying for.
What else comes with a civil service post
- PSC adverts give 30 working days of annual leave for civil servants. The Employment Act's floor is 21.
- Some adverts add a leave allowance or other allowances, so read the whole terms section.
- Applying is free. The Public Service Commission says it doesn't charge any fee for job applications, shortlisting, interviews or appointments. If someone asks you for money, stop and report it.
