The same job title can appear with different salary scales and employment terms. Nakuru County’s 2026 recruitment document includes both permanent revenue-clerk posts and contract clerical posts. Keeping the reference number beside the figure prevents a misleading one-number answer to “clerical officer salary in Kenya”.

Position and referenceBasic KSh/monthTerms in the advert
Clerical Officer II (Revenue Clerks), 03/2026/0620,560–26,460Permanent and pensionable; CPSB 14 / JG F
Clerical Officer II, 08/2026/0720,370–24,2803-year contract; CPSB 13 / JG F

Both ranges are basic salary, with allowances listed separately under the applicable SRC circulars. The CPSB labels above reproduce this particular advert. They are not a universal conversion table or a current nationwide pay guarantee.

Compare the advert number, not only “Clerical Officer II”

The revenue-clerk role appears on page 5 of the source PDF; the contract clerical role appears on page 23. They belong to different parts of the recruitment exercise. Record the department, reference, grade and terms together.

If an offer quotes a different grade or salary from the advert you applied to, ask HR which approved scale applies. Do not decide that the higher figure automatically belongs to every role with the same title.

Understand the duties behind the title

Clerical work can involve filing, correspondence, records, transactions or personnel information. Choose examples from your own experience that match the advertised duties: accurate data entry, document retrieval, handling enquiries or checking a record against its source.

A CV should explain the work you can do, while the salary discussion should establish the grade and contractual terms. Neither a computer certificate nor a familiar job title on its own determines your starting salary point.

Read the offer as a complete package

Ask for the basic salary, each regular allowance, payment frequency, employment term and start date in writing. Find out whether any quoted amount is consolidated. Gross pay and the amount deposited after deductions are different figures.

The linked advert is closed and is provided as a pay source. Use current vacancies for applications. For a new employer or recruitment cycle, repeat the comparison using the new advert and written offer rather than relying on these historical figures.
