Job application tracker: free, no Excel needed

Write down each job as you apply, with its deadline and when to follow up. There's no account and no spreadsheet to set up, and your list stays in this browser.

This tool runs only in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere. No signup. Your work stays in this browser until you delete it.

Add the jobs you apply for and set a follow-up date. What needs chasing shows here.

Add an application

For example: call HR on Monday

After ten applications, it's hard to remember who has your CV. Say you applied to a county board on 3 November with a closing date of 14 November. Add the job, set a follow-up for 21 November, and the tracker reminds you when you open it. If the interview call comes from a number you don't know, you can check quickly which job it's about. You can download your list as a file any time.

What should I write down for each job?

  • The role and the employer, exactly as in the advert.
  • The closing date. Don't count on a late application being read, so plan to send it early.
  • The date you sent it and how: portal, email or by hand.
  • The reference number, which you'll need if you call.
  • Your status and next step, such as follow up on the 21st.

When should I follow up?

If the advert gives a date for shortlisting, wait until after it. If not, one short, polite message after about a week or two is fine for a private employer. Public bodies usually publish shortlists, so check their site rather than calling. Don't follow up by paying someone to find out where your application is.

Where is my list kept?

In this browser, on this device. We don't have an account for you and can't see the list. That also means clearing your browser deletes it, and we can't bring it back. Download the file now and then, and open it in Excel or Google Sheets if you want a copy. On a shared computer in a cyber, don't use the tracker, or clear it before you leave.

What can the list teach me?

After 20 or 30 applications, look at your list. If you're getting no replies, check your CV against adverts. If you get interviews but no offers, practise your answers. If only one kind of employer replies, send more there.
