Say an advert for an accounts assistant asks for Excel, reconciliation and iTax, and your CV only says Excel and book keeping. This check shows you that reconciliation and iTax are missing. If you've really done that work, add it in the employer's own words: bank reconciliation every month, PAYE returns on iTax. If you haven't, don't write it down. You may still apply, but be ready to say what you'd learn.
What does this check do?
It compares the words and short phrases in the two texts, ignores common words and handles simple changes such as manage and managed. It lists the main words it found in your CV and the main words it didn't. It runs in your browser, so nothing you paste is stored or sent.
Why is there no score out of 100?
Because a score would suggest we know your chances, and we don't. No word count can predict who gets hired. Employers use different systems, or none at all, and many read every CV by hand. A short CV with the right experience beats a long one stuffed with words.
How should I use the missing words?
- You've done it but called it something else: use the advert's word for it.
- You've done it and left it out: add a line with what you did and a number if you can.
- You've never done it: leave it out. Being caught at the interview costs more than the gap.
- It's a must-have in the advert, like a licence or registration: don't spend time on the application unless you have it.
Which adverts work best?
Paste the full requirements and duties sections, not just the title. Remove the company's About Us part, since its words don't tell you much about the job. Do this again for each job you apply for. A CV that fits one advert may miss the next.
Questions people ask
Is this an ATS CV checker?
It's a plain word check. We can't copy any employer's system, and we won't claim to. It shows which words from the advert are in your CV.
Is it free?
Yes. You don't need an account, and there's no limit on how many adverts you check.
Is my CV uploaded?
No. The check runs in your browser. We don't store or receive what you paste.
Should I add every missing word?
Only the ones that are true for you. Never list a skill you don't have.
