Answer timer

Nothing is recorded. Say your answers out loud, or practise with a friend.

The best way to prepare for an interview is to say your answers aloud before the day. Take the question every panel seems to ask: tell us about yourself. A good answer takes about a minute: your training or last job, one thing you did that fits this job, and why you want it. Leave your home area and family out unless they ask. Pick a set of questions and start the timer.

How do I use this?

  • Choose All, or the kind of job you're going for.
  • Read the question, start the timer and answer aloud. Two minutes is plenty.
  • Tap to see what a good answer covers, and mark yourself honestly.
  • Say it again, shorter. Do three questions a day in the week before your interview.

Where do these questions come from?

We wrote them for jobs that appear on Work.ke, thinking about what the work asks of you. They aren't leaked questions from any employer, and no panel will ask exactly these. If someone offers to sell you the questions for a real interview, it's a scam.

What about the money question?

Know your number before you go. Work out what you need in hand, turn it into gross pay and give a range. If you're asked when you can start, say your real notice period. On monthly pay it's 28 days unless your contract says longer, and a promise to walk out tomorrow doesn't make you look reliable.

Before you go

  • Read the advert again, and take the duties list with you in your head.
  • Find out what the employer does from its own website.
  • Check the place and the time. Real interviews happen somewhere you can check. Tell someone where you're going.
  • Take your originals if they ask for them, but keep them in your own hands.
  • Don't pay anything to attend. Applying and interviewing are free.

Questions people ask

What are the most common interview questions in Kenya?

Tell us about yourself, why do you want this job, why did you leave your last job, what salary do you expect and when can you start. Then come questions about the job itself.

How long should my answers be?

One to two minutes for most. If you pass that, you've probably lost the point.

Does this tool record my voice?

No. You speak to yourself. Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere.
