Hotel jobs in Kenya: how to find and apply for the right role
Plan a focused hospitality job search in Kenya, choose a hotel department and prepare an application using official employer career pages.

A search for “hotel jobs in Kenya” can bring up very different kinds of work. Reception, housekeeping, food service, kitchen work and maintenance need different evidence. Choose the department that fits your skills, check the actual property and apply through the employer’s stated route. This guide helps you prepare; the role examples below are not announcements of current vacancies.
Choose a department before you write your CV
Start with the daily work you could demonstrate, then compare it with a real advert. Hotel job titles differ between employers, and a junior-sounding title does not guarantee that no experience is required. Read the essential qualifications and duties before deciding whether the position fits.
- Front office or guest services: relevant evidence might include handling enquiries, clear communication and accurate records.
- Housekeeping or laundry: useful examples may involve careful cleaning, following instructions and checking completed work.
- Food and beverage service: describe real service tasks, order accuracy and teamwork you have practised.
- Kitchen or stewarding: explain the training and practical preparation or cleaning tasks you have completed.
- Maintenance or stores: focus on the specific technical, stock or record-keeping skills requested.
Search by property, location and role
Decide where you could realistically work. Nairobi, Mombasa, Naivasha and other destinations may involve different travel or relocation arrangements for you. Check the property named in the advert rather than assuming a hotel group’s head office is the workplace. For a lodge or remote property, clarify the location before committing to an interview journey.
Search official career pages using both a department and a location. Marriott’s career site provides keyword and location search. Serena Hotels publishes careers information through its own website. These are starting points for checking employer information; they do not guarantee that a suitable Kenyan vacancy is open today.
Translate your experience into the hotel’s duties
A generic CV saying “I can do any hotel job” gives the reader little to assess. For a front office application, bring forward examples of helping visitors and keeping information accurate. For stores work, highlight stock counts or delivery records if you have done them. Describe the task and your contribution, not just a list of positive adjectives.
If you are new to hospitality, use relevant course practice, an attachment or another service setting and label it accurately. Helping at a community event can show organisation, but it should not become invented hotel employment. If the advert requires a particular certificate, registration or practical skill, check that requirement directly and state your current position honestly.
College event support | [Institution] | [Month year] • Checked attendee names against the registration list and directed visitors to the correct room. • Reported missing registrations to the event coordinator instead of changing the list without approval. • Helped tidy the reception area and return materials after the event.
Follow the exact application route
Some employers use online recruitment systems; others specify an email or another process in an advert. Start at the official career page and follow the instructions for the individual role. Do not leave your CV at a property or send documents to a general reservations inbox unless the employer invites that method.
Save the job reference, property name, deadline and confirmation of submission. A hotel brand can operate in several countries, so check the country and work location before applying. Read any work-eligibility question carefully and answer it accurately rather than assuming the brand name means the role is in Kenya.
Prepare for practical interview questions
Practise explaining how you would handle an unclear instruction, a guest complaint or a task that is beyond your authority. State when you would ask a supervisor. Use a real example if you have one; otherwise explain a sensible approach and make clear that you would follow the property’s procedures.
If you are invited to a practical assessment, confirm the location, expected duration, contact person and what you need to bring. Ask what the assessment involves so you can prepare appropriately. Verify unexpected changes through an independent employer contact before travelling or sending additional documents.
Clarify the schedule and practical arrangements
Ask for important arrangements in writing before relying on them. Do not assume that a remote property provides accommodation or that a city hotel offers transport after a late shift. Think through whether you can reach the workplace reliably on the proposed schedule.
- Which property and department would you join?
- What shifts and reporting times does the role involve?
- Who would supervise and train you?
- Are any meals, transport, uniform or accommodation arrangements included, and on what terms?
- What is the stated contract duration and start date?
Keep your search focused and verifiable
Maintain a short list of properties and official career pages, then check for roles that match your department and location. Reuse a truthful base CV while adjusting which evidence appears first. Remove closed adverts from your active list and keep a copy of each submitted application.
If someone promises a guaranteed placement in return for a personal payment, pause and verify the claim independently with the employer. A familiar hotel logo on a message is not enough to establish who sent it. Use the job-safety guide below when an approach feels rushed or unclear.
