Driver salary in Kenya: wage-order and county examples
Dated driver-pay examples: monthly minimums in Kenya’s 2024 General Wages Order and a 2026 county advert, with vehicle and location distinctions.
Driver pay depends on the vehicle class, applicable industry order and workplace. The current General Order separates cars and light vans, medium-sized vehicles and heavy commercial vehicles. The table below uses the 2026 statutory monthly rates; agricultural drivers have a separate schedule.

Legal Notice 95 of 2026 supersedes the 2024 General Order schedule from 1 May 2026. These are occupation-specific minimum basic rates, not average driver earnings or net pay.
Confirm the vehicle class and industry
Read the vehicle category in the original job advert and compare it with the exact Gazette occupation. A delivery title does not by itself identify the applicable vehicle class. Agricultural tractor, combine harvester and lorry roles are listed separately in Legal Notice 96 of 2026.
Check what the offer includes
The General Order table excludes housing allowance. Ask about accommodation, overtime, travel expenses and deductions separately. County or other public-sector driver adverts may quote a different grade-specific scale; compare them as separate employment terms rather than a national average.
