Many sales and service adverts in Kenya offer a basic salary plus commission. The basic figure is guaranteed; the commission depends on targets and rules that adverts rarely spell out. This page lists 22 such adverts open on Work.ke in early October 2026 and the questions to ask before you accept.

Questions to ask about commission

What is the monthly target, and what share of the team reached it in the last three months? A commission that almost nobody earns is not part of your pay.

Is commission a percentage of sales, of profit or a fixed amount per sale? When is it paid, and is it lost if a customer pays late or returns the goods?

Is the basic salary paid in full even in a month with no sales? Get the answers in the written offer.

Check the basic part on its own

Judge the offer first by the basic salary, because that is what you can rely on. Compare it with the minimum wage for your role and town using the checker linked below.

Before you accept an offer

Advertised pay is usually gross monthly pay. Your take-home pay is lower after PAYE, NSSF, SHIF and the housing levy; use the net salary calculator linked below to estimate it before you compare offers.

Ask for a written offer that states the basic salary, any allowances, how commission or bonuses are calculated, the contract length and the probation period. A figure in an advert is a starting point, not a promise.
