The KDF recruitment notice going around Facebook is fake

A post dressed up as a Kenya Gazette notice says KDF recruitment runs from 28 October to 27 November. The Kenya Defence Forces say no recruitment is going on, and fact-checkers found no such notice in the Gazette.

A Facebook post made to look like a Kenya Gazette page, dated 16 October 2026 and numbered Gazette Notice No. 12345, claims the Kenya Defence Forces are recruiting for 2026/27. It lists officers, general duty soldiers, tradesmen and women and specialists, with applications open from 28 October to 27 November.

On 19 October KDF marked the notice as fake on its official Facebook page and said there is no recruitment exercise going on. It also warned that fake accounts promise places in exchange for money or personal details.

Africa Check looked for the notice on Kenya Law, which keeps every Gazette edition, and did not find it. The Ministry of Defence says recruitment follows the needs of the forces, not a fixed yearly calendar.

Real KDF recruitment is announced in three places only: adverts in the mainstream media, the Ministry of Defence website and KDF's official social media accounts. Recruitment is free. Anyone who asks for money or your ID details to secure a slot is a fraudster.

The same rule works for every job: find the advert on the employer's own website before you apply. Every role on work.ke links to the employer's own page.
