What you will do
- Take full responsibility for the site financial control framework, including cash, imprest, and petty cash oversight.
- Validate casual labour payrolls by reconciling attendance and biometric data before submission to Head Office.
- Review and enforce three-way matching of purchase orders, delivery notes, and invoices to ensure payment accuracy and KRA tax compliance.
- Reconcile fuel, stores, and inventory against operational records and investigate variances.
- Prepare and deliver a complete, reviewed month-end site financial pack by Working Day 3 each month.
- Supervise, train, and coach the Site Junior Accountant to achieve audit-ready standards and independent operation.
- Support internal and external audits and ensure timely payment and documentation of site-level county levies, cess, and permits.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related field is required.
- Full CPA (K) qualification and current ICPAK membership are mandatory.
- At least four years of progressive accounting experience with a minimum of two years at a remote site in mining, construction, oil & gas, or large-scale agriculture.
- Minimum one year of experience supervising or mentoring junior finance staff.
- Proven skills in petty cash and imprest control, accounts payable, three-way matching, and supplier reconciliations.
- Experience validating casual or site payrolls and collaborating with HR on attendance-based payments.
- Competence in reconciling fuel, stores, or inventory in an operational setting.
- Sound knowledge of Kenyan tax and statutory requirements, including VAT, WHT, PAYE, NSSF, SHIF, Housing Levy, NITA, eTIMS, and KRA compliance, plus awareness of Mining Act 2016 royalty obligations.
- Proficiency in Xero accounting software; knowledge of Dext and Pronto ERP is advantageous.
- High integrity with custodial responsibility for company cash and financial records; a valid Certificate of Good Conduct is required.
- Strong communication skills to enforce financial controls with senior operational staff.
- Willingness to reside at the West Pokot Mine Site and work extended hours during month-end and audit periods.
