Gemstone Cutter/Facetor

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: (i) a Diploma in Gemstone Cutting, Lapidary, Gemology, Mineral Processing or Jewellery Technology from a recognized institution; (ii) knowledge of gemstone identification, grading, and valuation techniques; (iii) ability to operate and maintain lapidary equipment; and (iv) Good hand–eye coordination, attention to detail, and manual dexterity.

Duties and responsibilities will include: - (i) examining rough gemstones and determine the best cutting plan; (ii) marking, sawing, splitting, and pre-forming gemstones for faceting; (iii) cutting and facet gemstones to specified angles and proportions; (iv) polishing gemstones to achieve maximum brilliance and quality;
