Finance Officer supporting day-to-day financial operations including accounts payable and receivable, cash and bank reconciliations, reporting and general accounting, requiring a bachelor’s degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance or Commerce, 2-4 years relevant finance experience and ERP software proficiency, in an engineering and electrical solutions environment, on-site role in Mlolongo.

Our client is an established engineering and electrical solutions business with operations in East Africa. The company provides electrical products, machinery and equipment, power tools, cables, pumps, lubricants, batteries and related engineering services. Its customers include electrical contractors, commercial and industrial businesses, developers and other institutional customers.

They are looking for a Finance Officer to support the day-to-day financial operations of the business and ensure accurate, timely and well-controlled accounting records. The Finance Officer will be responsible for accounts payable and receivable, cash and bank reconciliations, invoicing, financial records, reporting, collections and general accounting support . The role requires strong attention to detail, integrity and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced trading environment.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable

  • Process supplier invoices and ensure they are properly authorized and supported.
  • Verify invoices against purchase orders, delivery documentation and agreed supplier terms.
  • Maintain accurate supplier account records.
  • Prepare supplier payment schedules and support timely payments.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain proper filing of invoices and supporting documentation.

Accounts Receivable & Credit Control

  • Raise and issue customer invoices accurately and on time.
  • Maintain customer account records and statements.
  • Monitor outstanding receivables and follow up overdue accounts.
  • Allocate customer payments and receipts accurately.
  • Conduct regular customer account reconciliations.
  • Escalate long-outstanding or disputed balances to management.
  • Support the implementation of appropriate credit-control procedures.

Cash & Banking

  • Record daily cash and bank transactions.
  • Perform regular bank reconciliations.
  • Monitor cash balances and expected inflows/outflows.
  • Prepare banking documentation and support cash-management activities.
  • Investigate and resolve unreconciled transactions.

General Accounting

  • Maintain accurate and complete accounting records.
  • Process journals and accounting adjustments as required.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Maintain the general ledger and supporting schedules.
  • Assist with accruals, prepayments and other accounting entries.
  • Ensure financial transactions are properly supported and authorized.

Inventory & Trading Operations

  • Reconcile inventory-related transactions and investigate variances.
  • Review sales invoices against goods issued/delivered.
  • Support stock counts and inventory reconciliations.
  • Monitor margins and pricing information where required.
  • Assist with identifying discrepancies between purchasing, inventory and sales records.

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare routine finance reports and schedules for management.
  • Provide accounts receivable and payable ageing reports.
  • Assist with monthly management accounts.
  • Prepare cash-flow information and supporting analysis.
  • Provide financial information required for management decision-making.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.

Tax & Compliance Support

  • Maintain accurate records required for statutory reporting.
  • Assist with preparation of VAT/sales tax and other statutory returns, as applicable.
  • Ensure financial documentation is maintained in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Support external and internal audits by providing requested schedules and documentation.
  • Keep abreast of relevant accounting and tax requirements.

Internal Controls

  • Follow established financial policies and procedures.
  • Ensure appropriate authorization and documentation of transactions.
  • Identify control weaknesses and bring them to management’s attention.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial and commercial information.
  • Support improvements to accounting processes and financial controls.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related field .
  • Professional accounting qualification or progress toward ACCA, CPA or equivalent is preferred.
  • 2–4 years of relevant accounting/finance experience , preferably within a trading, distribution, manufacturing or FMCG environment.
  • Experience with accounting/ERP software is required.
  • Good knowledge of bookkeeping, reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable.
  • Experience with VAT/tax accounting and statutory compliance is an advantage.
  • Strong Excel skills, including the ability to work with financial data and reconciliations.
