About this role

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Reporting & Ledger Management

  • Prepare and maintain accurate, up-to-date daily, weekly, and monthly financial statements (Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow).
  • Ensure all financial transactions, including credit sales, asset adjustments, and daily retail cash flows, are accurately coded and keyed into the system.
  • Conduct thorough bank reconciliations, petty cash audits, and point-of-sale (POS) system matches to minimize variances.

Statutory Tax Compliance & iTax Management

  • File all mandatory Kenyan payroll deductions (PAYE, SHIF, NSSF, Housing Levy) accurately and within strict timelines to avoid penalties.
  • Compute, reconcile, and file monthly Value Added Tax (VAT) returns and annual corporate income taxes via the KRA iTax portal .
  • Organize and preserve clear digital and physical ledger trails to ensure the business is audit-ready for the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

Retail Operations, Invoicing & eTIMS Governance

  • Seamlessly process and validate all company invoices and receipts through the KRA eTIMS (Electronic Tax Invoice Management System) platform to ensure full legal compliance.
  • Supervise the generation of accurate sales invoices and credit notes, maintaining strict tracking of supplier payables and customer receivables.
  • Monitor inventory valuation, reconcile stock levels between physical counts and the accounting software, and flag high-shrinkage areas.

Software Oversight & Internal Controls

  • Optimize the use of corporate accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or Xero) to improve financial reporting speed and security.
  • Implement and enforce rigorous internal control checks on branch expenses, supplier payments, and overhead spending.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business discipline.
  • Having CPA Section 2, CPA (K), or ACCA qualification will be a major added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 years of active experience as an Accountant strictly within a Retail or Supermarket environment.
  • Deep, practical knowledge of Invoicing, iTax, and eTIMS systems in Kenya.
  • Strong proficiency and hands-on familiarity with mainstream Accounting Software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, SAGE, or retail ERPs).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and multi-layered financial modeling).
