What you will do

  • Provide technical expertise and advice on laboratory testing, equipment, reagents, and processes to guide service delivery decisions.
  • Ensure quality assurance throughout the laboratory testing process, from sample handling to result reporting and error follow-up.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory standards including KMLTTB requirements and lead efforts to close any compliance gaps.
  • Support laboratory teams by providing technical direction, addressing staffing and training needs, and ensuring consistent implementation of procedures.
  • Lead and mentor Laboratory In-Charges to strengthen leadership and operational discipline.
  • Drive operational excellence by managing laboratory KPIs, standardising workflows, and promoting the use of digital tools for results management.
  • Develop and maintain laboratory SOPs and quality systems, conduct audits and inspections, and promote continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Laboratory Technology from a recognised institution.
  • Registration with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) and a valid practising licence.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in laboratory technology at Penda, including a minimum of 1 year as a laboratory in-charge, or alternatively 3 to 4 years of laboratory technology experience elsewhere with at least 2 years in a supervisory or technical leadership position overseeing laboratory services, quality assurance, and team management.
  • Proven ability to manage laboratory operations, quality systems, and compliance in a busy healthcare setting.
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills focused on empowerment and accountability.
  • Excellent knowledge of laboratory quality systems, biosafety, and diagnostic workflows.
  • Good planning, coordination, analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • High integrity and alignment with Penda Health's values.
