Business Development Executive driving processed chicken sales through daily route visits and van-based delivery while growing the customer base, requiring a qualification in marketing, sales or business, at least 2 years sales experience in poultry or FMCG with van sales and a valid driver’s licence, in a poultry processing environment, on-site role in Ruiru.

Our client is an established engineering and electrical solutions business with operations in East Africa. The company provides electrical products, machinery and equipment, power tools, cables, pumps, lubricants, batteries and related engineering services. Its customers include electrical contractors, commercial and industrial businesses, developers and other institutional customers.

They are looking for a results-driven Business Development Executive to grow customer base and sales across electrical, engineering, industrial and related product categories. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, developing relationships with customers, understanding technical requirements, preparing quotations, following up on opportunities and converting prospects into long-term customers.

Key Responsibilities

Sales & Business Development

  • Identify and develop new B2B sales opportunities within assigned territories and market segments.
  • Generate leads through field visits, referrals, networking, telephone outreach and other business-development activities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with electrical contractors, engineering companies, manufacturers, construction companies, developers, institutions and other commercial customers.
  • Develop new accounts while growing sales from existing customers.
  • Understand customer requirements and recommend appropriate products or solutions.
  • Prepare and submit quotations, proposals and commercial offers.
  • Negotiate pricing and commercial terms within approved company guidelines.
  • Follow up consistently on quotations and outstanding opportunities.
  • Convert enquiries into confirmed orders and achieve agreed sales targets.
  • Maintain an accurate sales pipeline and provide regular sales forecasts.

Product & Technical Sales

  • Sell products such as cables, electrical equipment, motors, pumps, generators, power tools, machinery, batteries, lubricants and related products.
  • Understand basic technical specifications and applications sufficiently to recommend suitable products.
  • Liaise with technical and operations teams when customer requirements require specialist input.
  • Identify opportunities to cross-sell and upsell complementary products and services.
  • Communicate product specifications, applications, availability and commercial terms accurately to customers.

Account Management

  • Maintain regular contact with key customers and understand their upcoming requirements.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction and resolve commercial issues promptly.
  • Develop repeat business and long-term customer relationships.
  • Track customer purchasing patterns and identify opportunities for increased share of wallet.
  • Maintain accurate customer and opportunity records in the company’s CRM or sales reporting system.

Market Development

  • Monitor competitor activity, market prices, customer requirements and emerging opportunities.
  • Identify potential projects and tenders at an early stage.
  • Build relationships with contractors, consultants, procurement teams and project stakeholders.
  • Participate in exhibitions, trade events, customer visits and other promotional activities.
  • Provide management with feedback on market trends, competitor activity and customer needs.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Business, Sales & Marketing, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Procurement, or a related field .
  • 3+ years of B2B sales experience , preferably in Lubricants, engineering, industrial equipment, automotive or a related sector.
  • Experience selling technical products or solutions will be an advantage.
  • Existing relationships with contractors, engineering companies, developers, industrial customers or institutional buyers will be an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed sales targets.
  • Good understanding of the B2B sales cycle, quotations, negotiations and account management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM/sales-management systems.
