We are seeking an experienced, hands-on and people-focused Senior HR Officer to oversee the day-to-day human resources function for one of our clients. The ideal candidate should have prior experience and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with unskilled workforce. The role requires a practical HR professional who can communicate effectively with employees at all levels, enforce policies fairly and consistently, and work closely with supervisors and management to maintain a productive and well-disciplined workforce.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a visible and approachable HR presence on the ground, regularly engaging employees and supervisors to identify and resolve people-related issues early.
  • Handle employee relations matters, including grievances, complaints, conflict resolution, disciplinary cases and workplace conduct, in a fair, consistent and confidential manner.
  • Monitor attendance, punctuality, absenteeism, leave and employee movements, and work with supervisors to address recurring attendance and performance issues.
  • Support supervisors and line managers in managing employee performance, including setting expectations, addressing poor performance and documenting appropriate follow-up actions.
  • Implement and consistently communicate HR policies, procedures and workplace rules in a manner that is practical and easy for frontline employees to understand.
  • Manage disciplinary processes, ensuring that cases are properly investigated, documented and handled in line with company policy and applicable employment laws.
  • Manage the end-to-end recruitment process, including sourcing, screening, interviewing, selection, onboarding, induction and placement of employees.
  • Develop and coordinate practical employee induction, orientation and training programmes, particularly for new and frontline employees.
  • Work closely with supervisors and department heads to address workforce challenges, improve employee productivity and maintain a positive working environment.
  • Support the implementation of performance improvement initiatives and recommend practical solutions to recurring people-management challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Kenyan employment laws, statutory requirements and company HR policies.
  • Prepare regular HR reports and provide management with insights on attendance, turnover, disciplinary cases, recruitment, employee relations and other workforce trends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Psychology, or a related field.
  • 4–5 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in an operational environment with a sizeable frontline workforce.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across different levels of the workforce.
  • Good knowledge of Kenyan employment laws and HR best practices. Professional HR certification is an added advantage.
  • Strong practical experience in employee relations, disciplinary processes, attendance management, recruitment and HR operations.
  • Proven experience managing unskilled, semi-skilled employees on a day-to-day basis.
