What you will do
- Lead impact evaluations and studies independently, including designing studies and developing data collection tools.
- Represent research and evaluation findings clearly to stakeholders within the organisation.
- Manage complex research workstreams and oversee all other projects to ensure compliance with standards.
- Develop and improve frameworks for quality assurance, monitoring, analysis, and reporting of impact data.
- Analyse and report on all research and evaluation data, enhancing data cleaning and automation processes.
- Collaborate with program teams to ensure research results are understood and used for decision-making.
- Manage team leadership tasks such as hiring, staff development, and performance management.
- Oversee budgeting and financial management of the research and evaluation department.
- Support stakeholders with ad-hoc requests related to study design, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Partner with senior leadership on strategic decisions related to impact work.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as economics or statistics.
- Master's degree in a related field is preferred.
- Strong professional experience in designing and implementing evaluations and analysing data, including managing large-scale data collection and field teams.
- Knowledge of evaluation concepts and expertise in experimental and quasi-experimental designs.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in statistical techniques like propensity score matching, difference-in-differences, and regression discontinuity.
- Proficiency in statistical software such as Stata or R.
- Strong project management skills to handle multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Clear and compelling written communication skills with attention to design and visual presentation.
- Ability to engage diplomatically with multiple partners and build strong relationships.
- Leadership experience including managing a team.
- Willingness to live in East Africa for at least two years, as this is a long-term, career-track role.
- At least five years of experience working in the developing world or being a national from the programme or operations countries.
- Proficiency in English is required; Swahili is an advantage.
