What you will do
- Assess, stabilise, diagnose, and manage critically ill patients with accurate documentation.
- Manage treatment of patients in the Critical Care unit following hospital policies and protocols.
- Consult and refer patients to specialists when necessary.
- Provide daily updates to patients and their next of kin, and manage admissions, consents, and discharges.
- Perform clinical procedures as trained and conduct timely ward rounds and patient reviews.
- Lead continuous medical education and support research to promote evidence-based practice.
- Participate in clinical quality initiatives such as morbidity and mortality meetings, incident reporting, and quality improvement plans.
- Review medical reports for insurance purposes and attend staff meetings as required.
- Rotate through various departments when needed and maintain a positive team-oriented attitude.
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality and ensure patient satisfaction using standard measurement tools.
- Support the facility's financial goals by enhancing service quality and diversity and assisting marketing efforts.
- Manage costs within budget, ensure timely billing and documentation, and enforce pre-authorisations and exclusions.
- Adhere to corporate governance policies, including fraud prevention and audit recommendations.
- Comply with all Avenue Healthcare policies, procedures, and systems.
- Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor in line with the job description.
Requirements
- Hold an MBChB degree from a recognised institution.
- Possess a valid Kenya Medical Practitioners' and Dentists' Council (KMPDC) licence.
- Have current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certificates.
- Have at least 2 years of post-internship experience.
- Preferably have at least 1 year of inpatient practice experience.
- Postgraduate training in Critical Care is desirable.
- Demonstrate customer focus and results orientation.
- Have strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills.
- Be reliable, ethical, emotionally intelligent, and detail-oriented.
