Dira HR Solutions is recruiting for this position on behalf of a client: a non-governmental organisation in Kenya that protects and supports survivors of human trafficking. Availability: Immediate. Only candidates who are available to take up assignments immediately, as and when called upon, will be considered. Contract: One-year consultancy contract, with assignments allocated on a needs basis. Duty Station: No fixed duty station. The Driver travels to all programme locations as assigned; the vehicle provided by the organisation for official use is the Driver's duty station. Vehicle: Provided by the organisation for official use only. The Driver is not required to supply a vehicle. Payment: A daily rate for each day on duty.

Independent Contractor (Service/Consultancy Agreement) – not an employee of the organisation Job Purpose To provide safe, reliable, and confidential transport services for the organisation's staff and program participants, including survivors of trafficking in high-risk cases, applying defensive driving practices, safeguarding principles, and sound judgement of Kenya's road and security dynamics.
The role is engaged on an independent contractor basis and is expected to uphold the highest standards of discipline, professionalism, and confidentiality at all times. Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Transport & Driving Services
- Provide safe, reliable, and timely transport for the organisation's staff and program participants, including survivors of trafficking, between shelters/safehouses, service providers, government offices, courts, and other designated locations. ● Apply defensive driving techniques at all times to anticipate hazards and minimise risk to passengers, particularly when transporting survivors from or through high-risk locations.
- Plan and adapt travel routes based on a strong working knowledge of Kenya's road networks, traffic patterns, and the differing security dynamics of specific roads and areas at different times of day. ● Maintain excellent timekeeping, ensuring punctual pick-up and drop-off, and promptly communicating any anticipated delays. ● Transport only authorized passengers, which may at times include a single accompanying staff member together with the survivor(s) being transported, in line with organizational protocols. 2. Safeguarding, Confidentiality & Survivor-Centred Conduct
- Uphold safeguarding principles, confidentiality, and a survivor-centred approach at all times when transporting survivors of trafficking, particularly those in high-risk cases.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding passengers' identities, case details, movements, routes travelled, and shelter/safehouse locations; never disclose such information to unauthorized persons. ● Maintain professional boundaries with survivors and staff at all times, avoiding any conduct, communication, or behaviour that could compromise a survivor's safety, dignity, or wellbeing. ● Promptly report any safeguarding concerns, incidents, or breaches of protocol observed during the course of duty to the supervisor. ● Comply with the organisation's Code of Conduct, safeguarding policies, and data protection requirements at all times. 3.
Security Awareness, Risk Management & Route Planning
- Maintain up-to-date awareness of high-risk areas, insecure routes, and security dynamics across Kenya's road network, adjusting travel plans and timing accordingly. ● Guide and advise passengers on precautionary safety measures to take before, during, and after movement, especially when accessing services or moving through or from high-risk locations. ● Remain alert to potential security threats (e.g. suspicious vehicles or persons, being followed) during transport, and take appropriate evasive or precautionary action.
- Liaise with the accompanying staff member and/or shelter/safehouse security personnel before, during, and after high-risk movements to confirm routes, timing, and safety arrangements. ● Immediately report any security incidents, threats, or near-misses encountered during transport. 4. Vehicle Management & Compliance
- Ensure the organisation's vehicle assigned for official use is roadworthy, clean, fuelled, and available ahead of scheduled trips. ● Maintain a valid driving licence and alert the supervisor in good time when the vehicle's insurance, inspection or other statutory documentation is due for renewal. ● Comply with all traffic laws, regulations, and road safety requirements in Kenya.
- Promptly report mechanical faults, accidents, or vehicle-related incidents to the supervisor.
- Maintain accurate trip records (routes, mileage, times, and passengers where appropriate) in line with organizational requirements. 5. Professional Conduct, Discipline & Time Management
- Maintain a high standard of discipline, reliability, and professionalism at all times. ● Be smart-casual/professionally dressed at all times, appropriate to the organisation's professional working environment. ● Maintain punctuality and excellent time management, planning journeys to avoid unnecessary delays. ● Maintain a calm, courteous, and respectful demeanour towards staff, survivors, and members of the public. ● Exercise sound judgment and discretion at all times, particularly in sensitive or high-risk situations. 6.
Contractual Terms & Independent Contractor Responsibilities
- Provide services under the terms of an independent contractor/service agreement with the organisation, including the agreed scope of work, schedules, and daily rate. ● Ensure all required personal documentation (driving licence and any other applicable permits) remains valid, and provide copies to the organisation as requested. ● Attend orientation and periodic refresher briefings on safeguarding, safety protocols, and organizational expectations. ● Submit invoices for the days on duty, with trip records and other required documentation, in accordance with the contractual agreement.
- Maintain confidentiality obligations and comply with the organisation's applicable policies for the duration of the engagement, notwithstanding independent contractor status. 7. Person Specification – Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Valid Kenyan driving licence with a clean record, and a valid Certificate of Good Conduct. ● Demonstrated defensive driving experience/certification, with a strong safety record. ● Broad, practical knowledge of Kenya's road networks and the security dynamics of different roads, routes, and areas at different times of day. ● Prior experience driving in sensitive, humanitarian, or protection-related settings is an added advantage.
- Understanding of, and commitment to, safeguarding principles, confidentiality, and ethical standards when working with vulnerable populations, including survivors of trafficking. ● Highly disciplined, professional, and reliable, with excellent timekeeping. ● Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to remain calm and reassuring in high-risk or high-stress situations. ● Willingness and ability to be smart-casually/professionally dressed at all times. ● Willingness to work flexible and irregular hours as required, including early mornings, evenings, or emergencies.
