Deputy Director/Senior Principal Superintending Geologist

(i) cumulative service period of twelve (12) years, three (3) of which should have been in the grade of Chief Superintending Geologist, (Geological Survey), CSG 7 or in a comparable and relevant position in the wider public service; (ii) a Bachelors degree in any of the following disciplines: Geology, Engineering Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Environmental Geology or any other equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya; (iii) professional membership with Geological Society of Kenya; (iv) registration by the Geologists Registration Board; (v) a Certificate in Leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution; (vi) demonstrated managerial and high degree of professional competence in work performance; (vii) able to demonstrate skills in management, creativity, innovativeness, technical problem solver, and a person of integrity who can be able to articulate, interpret and implement regional mapping and research mandates; and (viii) exhibited a thorough understanding of the national goals, policies objectives and programs and ability to relate them to the provision of reliable geological research data and geo-information/geo-chemistry/geo-physics

Gemstone Value Addition/Regional Coordination/Mineral Deposit Modelling and Evaluation (i) formulation of research and development programmes; (ii) co-ordinate all geological services; (iii) provide guidance, technical and policy advice to the government on all matters related to geology and strategic mineral resources; (iv) coordinating environmental issues relating to projects and programs; and (v) supervision, coordination, review and verification of programs.

Geo-Information Management

(i) coordinating Development, implementation and review of policies, strategies, standards and guidelines on Geological Survey and research; (ii) coordinating interpretation of advanced geological and remote sensing data; (iii) coordinating implementation of geological and structural mapping programs to define the character and distribution of the rocks and superficial deposits; (iv) developing and managing National Geosciences Repository and Database; (v) ensuring maintenance of laboratories, drill core repository, rock museum, resource center and records facilities; (vi) initiating publication of technical reports and journals on geology and mineral resources of Kenya; (vii) promoting and market Kenya as a mineral and mining investment destination; (viii) ensuring quality assurance on geological surveys and research programs; (ix) preparing and submit periodic reports; (x) providing technical guidance and policy advisories to the government on matters related to geological mapping and resource retrieval and disseminations; and (xi) collaborating with Space Agencies on utilization of remote sensing data in geological mapping.

Exploration-Geochemistry

(i) coordinating development, implementation and review of policies, strategies, standards and guidelines on Mineral Exploration and Evaluation; (ii) fostering research and innovation in mineral exploration, mining and value addition; (iii) coordinating interpretation of advanced geochemical sampling data; (iv) coordinating implementation of geo-chemical programs to define the character and geometry of mineral deposit; (v) initiating publication of technical reports and journals on mineral resources of Kenya; (vi) ensuring quality assurance on Mineral Exploration programs; (vii) preparing and submitting periodic reports; (viii) providing technical guidance and policy advisories to the government on matters related to mineral exploration and mineral deposits; (ix) collaborating with Space Agencies on utilization of remote sensing data in mineral exploration; and (x) generating mineral resource data to spur investment in the mining sector in line with Government development agenda.

Geo-Technical Investigation/Geological Survey and Mapping/Seismological Observation/Geo-Hazard Mapping and Management (i) coordinating development, implementation and review of policies, strategies, standards and guidelines on Environment and Engineering Geology; (ii) carrying out research and innovation in engineering geology, mining and mine safety.

(iii) execute interpretation of advanced geophysical, geological and remote sensing data in engineering geology and geo-hazards; (iv) develop and manage and continuously update a National geo-hazard vulnerability map; (v) spearheading collaboration with other countries in the Great Rift Valley system in the monitoring of movement and rifting system; (vi) preparing and submitting periodic reports on seismicity and land subsidence; (vii) proposing technical guidance and policy advisories to the government on matters related to geotechnical investigations, structural engineering, seismicity and general landmass movement; and (viii) collaborating with other earthquake monitoring networks within the region and globally.

Exploration Geophysics and Drilling

(i) coordinating development, implementation and review of policies, strategies, standards and guidelines on Mineral Exploration and Evaluation; (ii) fostering research and innovation in mineral exploration, mining and value addition; (iii) coordinating interpretation of advanced geochemical sampling data; (iv) coordinating implementation of geo-chemical programs to define the character and geometry of mineral deposit; (v) initiating publication of technical reports and journals on mineral resources of Kenya; (vi) ensuring quality assurance on Mineral Exploration programs; (vii) preparing and submitting periodic reports; (viii) providing technical guidance and policy advisories to the government on matters related to mineral exploration and mineral deposits; (ix) collaborating with Space Agencies on Utilization of remote sensing data in mineral exploration; and (x) generating mineral resource data to spur investment in the mining sector in line with Government development agenda
