TSC teacher recruitment in Kenya: application checks
Prepare for TSC recruitment with registration, advert and document checks, and distinguish teacher registration, internship recruitment and permanent appointments.

Teacher registration and an application for employment are separate steps. A TSC number does not by itself submit an application for an advertised post. Start from the current TSC notice and use its stated recruitment route, eligibility criteria and selection instructions.
Separate registration from recruitment
TSC’s recruitment guidance describes applications from qualified, registered teachers for declared vacancies. Check your registration status and the details held in your profile, then read the eligibility conditions for the particular intake. Do not treat a registration application still in progress as a completed registration.
A permanent appointment, an internship and a promotion are different opportunities. The notice should tell you which process is being run. Read the subject combination, institution or location and any category-specific requirements before you decide that an advert matches your training.
Start at the official TSC site
Reach the recruitment link through TSC’s website or its official Teachers Online service. The online service distinguishes registration, profile updates and advertised posts. Follow the link for the task you actually need rather than repeatedly registering as a new teacher.
Save the original recruitment notice and any accompanying guidelines for that exercise. A scoring sheet or checklist from an earlier year may be useful background, but it should not replace the current instructions. Check later official corrections or updates before submission.
Prepare a consistent set of records
Compare your name, registration details, qualifications and dates across the application and supporting records. Make sure scans are readable and complete. If the notice asks you to present originals at a selection stage, keep them ready; uploading a scan is not the same as producing an original when required.
Use the document list in the actual notice. Avoid collecting an unrelated certificate pack or assuming that a requirement from another recruitment category applies to you. Resolve a discrepancy through the issuing institution or official support route rather than editing a document.
Make a role-specific application checklist
- Recruitment type: internship, permanent recruitment, promotion or another declared exercise.
- Registration and qualification requirements checked against your records.
- Subject combination, institution, county or sub-county matches the application.
- Current guidelines and deadline saved.
- Required online fields completed and the submission confirmation retained.
- Selection notices and document-presentation instructions checked through official TSC channels.
Keep control of your account and confirmation
Use contact details you can access throughout the process. If someone helps you apply, review the information before submission and keep control of the login. TSC’s advertised-posts service states that recruitment applications require no payment. An intermediary cannot guarantee selection by collecting a fee.
After submitting, keep the application record and prepare to explain the training and teaching experience you declared. Respond to a verified invitation within the stated timeline. If an instruction appears inconsistent with the original notice, seek clarification through TSC rather than following an unverified forwarded message.
Read the appointment and pay terms separately
Selection is not the same as receiving and accepting an appointment. Read the official offer, reporting instructions and acceptance deadline. Check the appointment category, station, grade where stated and effective date. An internship stipend should not be replaced with a permanent-teacher salary from a general article.
For salary comparisons, use the applicable TSC grade and CBA period. Work.ke’s teacher-pay guide shows dated examples and explains the limits of the confirmed figures. Keep your own appointment and payroll records as the basis for checking an individual salary.
Check the teaching assignment as well as the grade
Before submitting, compare the advertised teaching level, subject combination or specialisation, school information and employment arrangement with your training. Prepare a record of the qualification and registration details that support that match. If a notice covers many institutions, keep a separate line for each option so that a school name or subject combination is not copied into the wrong application.
At the next stage, compare an invitation with the official recruitment instructions and bring only the originals and copies that are requested. Keep your own documents secure and retain a record of anything submitted. When an offer arrives, read the appointment terms and applicable pay circular together. A salary range for an established grade does not automatically apply to an internship or establish your placement within that range.

Frequently asked questions
Does teacher registration guarantee employment?
No. Registration and recruitment are separate processes. You still need to meet and follow the requirements of the advertised exercise.
Can a past recruitment PDF be used for a new intake?
Use the current official notice and its dates. A previous exercise can explain the format, but its eligibility and instructions may have changed.
Is internship pay the same as a teacher grade salary?
Do not assume so. Use the internship notice for its stipend and terms, and the relevant salary circular for an established teaching appointment.
Where should I check my application route?
Start at the official TSC recruitment information and follow the portal linked for that exercise.
Does Work.ke have the complete current TSC pay table?
The salary guide states exactly which figures and periods have been verified. Do not infer missing grades or pay points from the examples shown.
