About this role

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Montessori Teaching & Learning

  • Plan and deliver age-appropriate Montessori lessons and activities that promote independent learning, exploration and development.
  • Prepare and present Montessori materials effectively, ensuring learners understand how to use them and progressively develop their skills.
  • Observe individual learners and adapt activities to their developmental needs, interests, abilities and learning pace.

Child Development & Classroom Environment

  • Create a well-organized, stimulating and child-friendly classroom that reflects Montessori principles and encourages independence.
  • Support learners’ cognitive, language, physical, social and emotional development through appropriate classroom activities and interactions.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, self-discipline, confidence, cooperation and respect while maintaining a calm and orderly learning environment.

Learner Care, Safety & Wellbeing

  • Provide attentive supervision and ensure the safety, health, hygiene and general wellbeing of all learners throughout the school day.
  • Identify and respond appropriately to children’s emotional, behavioural and developmental needs, escalating concerns to the relevant school authority.
  • Maintain a safe classroom environment and follow established child protection, first aid, emergency and safeguarding procedures.

Parent & School Communication

  • Maintain regular and professional communication with parents regarding learners’ progress, behaviour, development and areas requiring additional support.
  • Prepare accurate learner progress records and participate in parent meetings, school activities and other relevant engagements.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow teachers and school management to support learners and maintain consistency in teaching and care practices.

Classroom Planning & Documentation

  • Prepare weekly and daily lesson plans and organize Montessori materials and activities in line with the school’s curriculum and learning objectives.
  • Maintain accurate records of learner attendance, observations, assessments, progress and other required classroom documentation.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of learning activities and continuously improve teaching approaches based on learner observations and outcomes.

Professional Development & School Participation

  • Stay updated on Montessori teaching methods, early childhood development practices and emerging approaches in early years education.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, school events and other activities that contribute to the overall development of the school.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, patience, integrity and a positive attitude while contributing to a supportive and child-centred school culture.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

  • Diploma or Certificate in Montessori Educationfrom a recognized institution.
  • A minimum of 2–3 years’ teaching experience in a Montessori setting.
  • Strong understanding of Montessori philosophy, methodology and child development principles.
  • First Aid and child safety/safeguarding training will be an added advantage.
  • Strong understanding and practical application of Montessori principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patient, nurturing and child-centred approach.
