What you will do

  • Develop and manage a pipeline of investment initiatives aligned with UNCDF priorities and country programmes.
  • Prepare concept notes, funding proposals, and project documents to advance investment initiatives.
  • Identify and screen investment opportunities from various partners and coordinate market scans and requests for proposals.
  • Lead the appraisal and execution of investment transactions including due diligence, financial analysis, risk assessments, and preparation of investment reports.
  • Coordinate transaction structuring, legal documentation, and ensure conditions precedent are fulfilled through to disbursement.
  • Build and maintain relationships with commercial banks, development finance institutions, impact investors, and other financing partners.
  • Prepare presentations, briefing materials, and knowledge products; support stakeholder engagement and strategic communications.
  • Contribute to policy briefs, resource mobilization, and provide technical inputs to programme design.
  • Provide advisory services, organize training, and support knowledge management related to programme matters.

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree (master's or equivalent) in Economics, Finance, Business Administration or related field, or a bachelor's degree with an additional two years of qualifying experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience with a master's degree or 7 years with a bachelor's degree in the financial or private sector with investment or business management experience.
  • Experience structuring and executing financial transactions including financial modelling and credit risk assessment.
  • Proven experience managing investment portfolios including monitoring performance, risk mitigation, and compliance.
  • Experience writing investment and transaction memos for decision-making committees.
  • Experience in stakeholder management and negotiation with financial institutions and other MSME financing stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English and Swahili.
  • Professional certification in finance or credit is an asset (preferred).
  • Experience working with development finance institutions, impact investors, or donor-funded programmes (preferred).
  • Experience managing multi-million-dollar portfolios with delivery against disbursement and impact targets (preferred).
  • Understanding of MSME financing ecosystem in Kenya or East and Southern Africa (preferred).
  • Experience in project preparation and development of investment opportunities with social and environmental objectives (preferred).
